Description of the painting by Isaac Levitan Autumn. River

Levitan – one of the main artists of the Russian landscape. He subtly felt nature and was able to masterfully convey her various states in his paintings, thereby creating a “mood landscape”.

The favorite time of year for the Russian painter was always autumn, at this time he painted an unimaginable number of canvases: not counting sketches, there are about 100 of them. One of the famous autumn paintings, which Levitan completed in 1899 – “Autumn. River”.

In this picture, the artist depicts autumn in her copper-gold dress, the pre-winter sun warms the earth barely noticeably. In the yellowing grass, the withering grass already feels the sadness of the farewell days. The birches on the right are dressed in yellow leaves that are already half-fallen. The trees on the right are still adorned in a luxurious, reddish vestment and lush yellow attire. Green trees can be seen through them, which until recently resist the cold winter and wilt. Behind the meadow, stretches a cold blue river, on its opposite bank one can see a snow-white church with dark domes and a small settlement.

The canvas is made in bright colors, evoking pleasant emotions in the viewer. The motionless smooth surface of the river reflects the blue sky with white fluffy clouds. Looking at the horizon line, you can see the distant buildings, forests and fields.

Landscape Levitan “Autumn. River “depicts the most poetic of all seasons. Looking at the picture, I recall the poems of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, who, like Levitan, praised autumn.

Looking at the picture, it is clear that the artist loved autumn for the festival of colors, he does not depict it as a sad, dull time. Therefore, looking at the painting “Autumn. The river “, the viewer does not come up with sad thoughts, on the contrary, he feels love for nature and native spaces, is enjoying, admiring the charm of the beautiful pores.
