Description of the painting by Isaac Levitan Late autumn

Another stunning landscape Levitan “Late Autumn”. This time is one of his favorite seasons. Of course, it is impossible not to glorify the beauty of autumn with its riot of colors of fading nature.

The canvas is written in a completely familiar to the author style of the gloomy landscape. Nature is depicted without excessive gloss exactly as it appears to the viewer in reality. Dusk. Clouds thickened in the sky. It may rain. Most likely, it has been raining for more than one week – a large puddle has already formed in the foreground. In the puddle, yellow leaves are floating, like ships, similar to those that descend along the first spring streams of the little ones. The fields have been removed; a haystack can be observed at a distance.

The whole landscape in suspense and suspense. A little more and winter will come. Nature is ready for “death,” after which, no doubt, revival will come. Leaves

have already flown around the birch trees – they are completely naked, it seems that they are cold and pressed closer together. Forest in anticipation: in anticipation of cold weather, frost, the first snow. A little more and this still pretty color picture will be replaced by a monotonous white snow-covered plain.

In the background are evergreen spruce and yellowed leaves of other trees. All the grass has long been yellow and faded. The sky is completely overcast and hopeless.

The overall impression of the picture is rather gloomy. But in total, the landscape is perceived rather hard – the picture is painted in gloomy colors, it is worth straining your eyes in order to make out the essential details of the landscape. This landscape is not about the magnificent wilting of nature. There is no riot of colors in it. However, it is precisely this picture that can most clearly reflect the autumn state of nature, without excessive embellishment of reality.
