Description of the painting by Victor Vasnetsov Military telegram

In 1878, the picture “Military Telegram” was born, the author of which was the famous artist Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov. By law, the work is one of the key in Russian painting. The masterpiece is kept in the Tretyakov Gallery of Moscow.

The canvas has a sharp and topical plot. Dark tones, shades of brown, black, and gray dominate. The selection of colors is aimed at creating an oppressive impression on the viewer. This atmosphere, as well as possible, reflects the state of Russian society at that time. It feels the tension provoked by the war.

Anxiety rallied all. Gathered society motley and heterogeneous. Here is an educated young lady, and intelligent men, and simple poor people. War concerns everyone, news is necessary for all. While one of the participants reads the news, the rest express their emotions. The only woman is scared and discouraged. The faces of the rest are full of anxiety and sadness. News from the front is disappointing. Even the raining seems to go unnoticed by most of the crowd. The impression is complemented by a wet and gray pavement that carries anguish.

The striking story sinks into the heart. So subtly portray the war, without resorting to blood, military action, shells given only by the real geniuses of art and painting. That was the creator of the masterpiece V. Vasnetsov.
