Description of the painting by Francisco de Goya “The thrush of Bordeaux”
Many people call this picture the first manifestation of impressionism in painting. Light strokes line up the image of a beautiful sitting girl who amazes art lovers with their uniqueness. So, it was replaced by almost photographic clarity and focus on meaning, the lightness and momentaryness of images of impressionism came. The artist decided to deviate from the classical style of painting, which resulted in the creation of a whole direction of painting.
In the center of the picture is a beautiful young girl, slightly bowed her head. The face is not very clear, but a slight smile and big beautiful eyes give the character of the main character. Despite the smile of the girl, the work casts a little melancholy and anxiety. Some art critics perceive this picture differently, as if the artist conveyed a bright and cheerful image of a young thrush. However, it is better to perceive the work as dual: a simple image symbolizes both light sadness and hope.
The darkened figure of thrush is enveloped in carefully crafted natural light. It becomes obvious that the picture was created in open space. While sunshine dominates on the left side, the sky looks more anxious on the right side. In the lower left corner you can see the silhouette of a jug created by several light strokes. This element hints at the identity of the main character. The dark hair of a woman, slightly shining in the light, is hidden in a cap, and her shoulders are covered with a light fabric like a shawl. Dressed not too luxurious heroine still causes admiration, so, the artist conveyed the magnificence and beauty of the girl, not belonging to the highest class.
