Description of the painting by Viktor Borisov-Musatov “Autumn Song”
Boris Musatov, in addition to portraits, loved drawing natural colors. It was especially successful to catch the mood of a certain season. The author loved autumn, for juicy shades and bright spots on the gray earth. Some critics believe that all canvases are endowed with sadness and gloom. Simply, he knew how to convey the carefree and familiar way of people who lived on huge estates. To a greater extent, he painted portraits of his surroundings, especially the ladies with great skill. The artist loved to walk across the expanses and make sketches of nature. He seemed to draw with his soul, investing all his skill and talent.
Birches bent over the lake, their yellow foliage neatly lying on the branches. The blue sky foreshadows a change, winter will come soon. Musatov managed to convey the autumn song, putting it on the canvas. That is what this time of year looks like in its presentation. He seemed to move away the thick foliage and saw more greenish hills and fields. Greens smoothly turn into a blue sky, the details of the landscape are a bit blurry. This is a special technique, like a dream that exists, but can quickly dissolve into oblivion. The sky and clouds are reflected in the water, this gives the picture a special vividness.
It seems that the foliage quietly rustling in the wind, and somewhere a wedge of cranes flies high to the south. Such an artist was admired by Russia, the colors of autumn calmed down and a little suggestive of dreary thoughts. This artist is a very mysterious person, so was Boris Musatov. He loved his family and the surrounding nature. It is difficult not to admire the ideal birch trees, peaceful watery expanses and endless fragrant meadows. The true beauty of autumn is conveyed in this picture. At first glance, it seems that the canvas does not carry complex details. Maybe it is so.
