Description of the painting by Pablo Picasso Family of Comedians

The painting “Family of Comedians” was written in Paris. P. Picasso lived in a dormitory, a dilapidated building. His friends loved the circus; this passion was passed on to the artist. Heroes of his work are circus workers, theater actors. At that time, they did not earn much money, and their life was more like a miserable existence.

The plot of the picture breathes with sadness. Apparently there is a separation of loved ones. Harlequin with a scarf around his neck sadly looks at the man standing in front of a stout man. Most likely, the scarf symbolizes the restriction, perhaps the actor is within certain limits that oppress him. A suit in a cage, so often entertaining the public, on the contrary, makes the image dull.

The girl with sadness looks under her feet, apparently it is difficult for her to experience these moments. This image is inspired by Pablo Picasso’s muse, like in the film “Girl

on the ball.” The girl’s black wings darken her image and limit her freedom in a way. Perhaps a very high price was paid for it. Images of young men slightly deployed, they are detached from parting, looking in the direction of the excellent lady. The man in the red suit is most likely the head of the clan. His figure symbolizes success and satisfaction with life. He is talking to the harlequin.

The picture tells about the personal experiences of the artist. Thus, P. Picasso shows his attitude towards art in general. He is in the image of a sad harlequin, with a girl by the hand, which symbolizes his muse. He turns around, says goodbye and leaves the well-fed and contented life. His scarf around his neck squeezes his throat and limits will. He no longer likes security or gorgeous ladies. He wants to live for the sake of art, by its own rules.

The artist does not need spectators, success and sale of works. This framework discourages his muse, for the creator it is unbearable. Of course, he is sad to say goodbye to everyone, but the artist simply cannot do otherwise. The picture conveys a difficult spiritual world of a creative person.
