Description of the painting by Amedeo Modigliani “Alice”
Modigliani for five years, written a huge number of portraits (there are more than three hundred). We see a girl wearing a simple blue dress. She sits, posing for the artist.
Alice looks at the viewers. Her eyes are large almond-shaped. The face is framed with dark hair. They casually fall on the dress. The painter deliberately stylizes the face under the mask characteristic of African tribes.
Cloth as simple as possible in color plan. The range of colors varies from blue to terracotta. As a result, Modigliani manages to create an unusual contrast. The creation of the artist takes on a special vividness. At the same time, silence and incredible harmony are not violated.
The artist preferred elongated forms. They are very clearly seen in this portrait. Alice’s head is shaped like an egg, and her neck is like a cylinder. Silhouette deliberately elongated. The vertical size of the canvas once again underlines
Modigliani manages to convey the inner mood of the girl. In her eyes read absolute calm and some coldness. Open forehead strikes determination. The artist registers the correct facial features as clearly as possible. The girl sits quietly, hands folded in her lap. All contours are incredibly clear. The background creates a certain contrast with the figure of Alice. However, it is in harmony with the color of her dress.
Modigliani managed to portray the most lively girl. She is not serious weather. Wrong proportions do not spoil her appearance at all. Viewers have a warm feeling when looking at Alice. We feel a special attitude of the artist to her.
In the artist’s portraits, the special grace of silhouettes, the most subtle color transitions, and expressive emotions are impressive. Modigliani skillfully creates his own world. Each of his portrait is a real miracle, which embodied the vision of the artist of the world.
