Description of the painting by Oleg Popov “Pending”
Once artists painted without a brush – because there were no brushes either. There were fingers, a sharp ember, wedged in them, a piece of chalk, a paint into which they could be dipped. So the caves were painted, and the color was given to the first, yet insecure, paintings.
Then, of course, humanity departed from this – a lot of tools appeared, it was the tool that helps a person to realize his creative potential, and it was the tool that made him a reasonable person. But despite this, there are artists who return to the prehistoric writing technique and create a picture with the touch of a finger, not trusting the inspiration of the hand.
“Pending” is created that way. Everything in it indicates tension, the desire to finally meet with those who are so lacking. The clock froze five minutes to nine. Rose twitches in tight fingers. Looking fumbles, looking, trying to find, finally, the one for whom was wearing a blue dress and hair styled. Looking, attentive, tense posture. The curtain twitches slightly. The air trembles with her, filled with anxious thirst, desire. The girl in the picture is waiting for her lover, and even if you look only at her face, it remains obvious. She is waiting.
Of course, the fact that the picture was written with fingers made it somewhat more generalized than if it were painted with a brush. With your finger you can’t draw a really thin line, it’s difficult to put in finesse without the help of a tool. But the picture is not necessary. It is beautiful in its deprivation of small parts, in how it consists of a common, oiled, whole and single.
Turn away from the picture – and maybe the girl will smile, cry out joyfully? Or maybe she would not have to wait at all.
