Description of the painting by Konstantin Makovsky “Girl in Flora Suit”
A portrait in painting is an artistic image of a person, conveying his inner world. There is nothing superfluous in the space of canvases that would distract the viewer from the character depicted.
Among the vast artistic heritage of Konstantin Makovsky, women’s portraits occupy a huge place. One of the best and probably the most beautiful and expressive is the “Girl in Flora Suit”, made in a romantic manner.
The girl is not depicted in casual clothes – the artist saw her in a romantic attire of the goddess. Looking at the image, the viewer gradually begins to believe that this is how the Greek goddess of spring and the colors of Flora looked so many thousands of years ago – the image of the artist’s contemporaries transfigured into a mythological heroine interlaced so organically.
A light transparent veil with an air cloud enveloped the bust of the beauty, a cloud of weightless
Thick black hair, decorated beautifully framing the gentle pallor of the face, lively flowers cleverly woven into the hair.
It is impossible to look away from the face of the girl: her dark eyes, deep, gentle eyes do not let go, immersing the viewer in a magical numbness of breathtaking beauty. Subtle facial features: “sable eyebrow”, elegantly raised, perfect lip shape, straight nose, expressive big eyes – in Russian “Greek” everything delights and captivates at first glance.
The color background of the picture effectively lightens the image of the beautiful woman.
The left side is muffled, dark, indistinctly spelled out. In contrast, the right side is highlighted, contrasting even more with the dark curls of the character.
The portrait evokes a feeling of surprise and admiration for the wondrous beauty of the image on the one hand, and on the other hand, the author’s masterly mastery.
