Description of the painting by Isaac Levitan Prunus

Landscape works of Levitan are distinguished by softness and smoothness of lines, solar states of nature. Exactly the same features are presented to us by his early work “The Cherry Blossom”.

The central role in the composition is taken by the tree itself. It is located in the center, its large branches reach almost to the edges of the composition, and white flowers gleam with bright spots. The key role in the work is assigned to the tree. The rest of the details are not given special attention.

To the left of the bird cherry – a piece of dark nondescript roof that does not attract the viewer’s attention; to the right, far trees look like a large dense green spot. The fence, drawn under the bird cherry, merges into a single gray spot. Its individual details are not drawn to the end, there are no clear lines or borders.

Choosing an image for his composition, Levitan wanted through the bird cherry to convey the approach of spring, the approach of joy, happiness, beautiful warm moments. No wonder that in Russia the bird cherry was a symbol of life and youth.

It was believed that she calms pain, suffering and accompanies in love. In Slavic beliefs, the bird cherry tree is considered a May tree and a symbol of spring. Its bloom is always accompanied by the singing of birds, new love, dating and a variety of recreational rites.

Blossoming branches of bird cherry is a traditional decoration of the house. Spring warming, new life and hope for all living things. Depicting the blooming bird cherry in the center of his composition, the author turned to popular beliefs and omens. He wanted to remind of the upcoming spring, joy, fun and carelessness.

Remind about the upcoming holidays, soon the coming of summer, a fruitful harvest. The bird cherry symbol appears as a symbol of vitality, craving for the sun and all living things.
