Description of the painting by Nicholas Roerich Sacred Spring

The picture was painted in 1945, which means not just spring, but victory over a terrible and bloody war. Roerich is distinguished in this picture by a radiant, bright shine. This is the real Russian spring, the triumph of the world over the war. All the heroes of the canvas are depicted in light clothes, these are girls. These Russian beauties who lead a round dance.

In its center stands their chosen one, a girl with a long, below the waist, dark oblique, into which yellow flowers are woven. In her hands she holds a whole garland of yellow, like small suns, inflorescences similar to dandelions. On the heads of all the girls in the dance there are wreaths of the same flowers.

The light clothes of the participants in the dance at the bottom are lined with red ornamentation, pointing to Old Slavic customs. And next to them sit, resting, men and young boys are still very young. Someone plays for girls on the pipe, someone just looks at their joyful dance. Round dance lead around a large stone, and the central one stands on a stone. On the hill where the dance takes place, dandelions are blooming everywhere. In the background begins the river, its light blue surface is smooth, without a single wave.

It seems that now only dawn has come, because people are still in the shadows, and in some places there are already bright sun highlights, yellow and juicy. On the right side there are trees that form a small forest on the mountainside. In the background you can see the mountain, also green, as the grass in the foreground. The sky here is light, almost gray, everything speaks of the early morning. Early morning at the time of the celebration of spring over winter, peace over the war.
